Mantis Creatures are a large, insectoid species from the future. They prey on Humans and Mutated Future Predators.
History[]
In the Sterile Earth, while Sean, Ash, Andrea and Bob are fleeing from a pack of Mutated Future Predators, Bob notices a large, dark cave which, unbeknownst to the group, a Mantis Creature is hiding in. Bob runs toward the cave, and just as the rest of the group yell at Bob to come back, the Mantis Creature comes out of the cave, grabs Bob, and returns into the cave with him, where it presumably eats him.
Biology[]
The Mantis Creature resembles a large, 30-ft praying mantis, but with a heavily armoured body and an elongated head. Because they spend nearly all of their time hiding and sheltering in dark caves, Mantis Creatures are blind, but have an excellent sense of smell, touch and hearing, and their bodies are a dark-grey colour to camouflage them in dark caves. They also possess extremely large claws for grabbing smaller prey in, and have large, sharp mandibles for eating.
Behaviour[]
Mantis Creatures hide in large, dark caves which shelter them from toxic storms, waiting for unsuspecting humans and/or Future Predators to come along. Usually, a Mantis Creature will wait until an unsuspecting human or Predator comes into the cave to search of shelter from the toxic storms, and will then capture and eat the human or Predator in the cave. But if and when a Mantis Creature becomes desperate enough, rather than wait for unsuspecting prey to enter the cave, it will wait until prey comes close enough to the cave entrance, then briefly come out of the cave, grab the prey and return to the cave with it.
